Diocesan Guest House Project
After official launching, the Diocese of Rutana has started implementing the plan of the Diocesan Guest House from June 2022.The guest house will be having 24 rooms, all self-contained, a Conference Hall capable to host at least 100 persons, and a restaurant. The project of the Guest House construction which is undertaken by the diocese may take longer because it is supported by only parishioners but by God’s Grace will be definitely completed. We pray that it may be finished in two years and a half and it aims to generating income which can help the diocese support its mission.
Food security : Potatoes, maze, beans and rice Project
In the area of food security, the Diocese of Rutana through the department of Development ran an agricultural project on 19 hectares in Rutana, Giharo and Mpinga kayove communes whereby the significant quantity of tones were harvested this year as you see on the graphic and Photo below

Thy Kingdom Come Program-Rutana Diocese
As scheduled for every everyone partner of the “Thy Kingdom Come” in every part of the world, Rutana Diocese as it is used to jointly with other countries and churches around the world got involved in the “The Kingdom Come Program” whereby more than 60 people attended every day the prayer sessions. The daily program during the 10 Day Prayer sessions was made of the following major points :
- Arranging seats on a round line so that we could see each other
- Opening Christian hymn songs just to lead our mind into God’s presence
- One of the participants was daily chosen to open the session with a prayer while everybody was kneeling down
- Another person was daily chosen beforehand to share God’s word with others in a very short time leading all the participants into the real spiritual context related to 10 days the Christ’s Apostles had as they were waiting for the Holy Spirit
- Thereafter everybody was given an opportunity to go somewhere in the Cathedral and spend a private time praying :
- For his spiritual growth
- To ask God to pour His Holy Spirit on His Church especially in Countries where the Name of the Lord isn’t much welcome
- To Pray for at least 5 well known unsaved persons so that the Lord may save them
- To pray for the World so that it may be free from COVID-19
After 30 min reserved for a private prayer, all the participants had to come back and gather together in their initial places and therefore share other private and common prayer items before they sing together one Christian Hymn song and had a Concluding prayer.
* On the last Sunday, 8th November 2020, there was a final confirmation service in Rutana Archeaconry- Rutana Anglican Diocese- whereby 450 people were confirmed ! On that particular occasion, the Rt. Rev. Evariste Nijimbere, the Diocesan Bishop of Buhiga Diocese was the Guest of honour and preached from Amos 5:21-27 and Mathieu 25.
In his preaching, he started warning the church to avoid worshiping idols but only God and ended up talking on ownership so that Christians may actively get involved for their church development !
Thereafter there was a Holy Communion followed by the gifts which were presented to both the Bishop of Rutana and Buhiga Dioceses.*
* On this very Sunday, the 25th October 2020, there was a confirmation service in Timbura archdeaconry where 363 Christians were confirmed. During that church confirmation service, three Bishops were present. A part from the diocesan Bishop of Rutana Diocese, there were also the Bishop of Gitega Diocese, the Rt. Rev. Aimé Joseph Kimararungu and the Archbishop of the Anglican Church of Burundi, his Grace the Acp Martin Blaise Nyaboho. The Bishop of Gitega Diocese was the preacher of the day and basing his preaching on Romans 13:11-14, he warned the congregation to spiritually wake up and serve God. His Grace Martin took time to talk about “OWNERSHIP” just to support the message of Bishop Aimé of Gitega as he insisted on the need of Christians’ spiritual revival in order to work for a holistic transformation of their church.
Thereafter there was a confirmation activity led by the Bishop of Rutana, Bp Pontien Ribakare helped by those two guests and it was very fantastic to see three Bishops alternatively confirming at once in the same congregation. Then a holy communion followed and the service was closed by presenting different gifts to all the three Bishops, and a sharing of lunch together.
The church was extremely joyful.*
On Monday 11th June 2018, the Diocese of Rutana received a team from Durham(UK) and they spend a short time with the Diocesan Bishop and some the Diocesan Staff as well.
They visited the Saint John Cathedral which still under construction. Thereafter they spent a short time with all the Diocesan Pastors and the Bible School Students who were gathered together with in a two day workshop led by the Scupture Union.
The visitors were also taken to Gifunzo to be shown some of the Diocesan projects such as the Bible School and the Primary and Secondary Schools belonging to the church and the Church building under constuction for Gifunzo Parish.
The visitors left us with gifts to be given to the children. They promised to come back to Rutana Diocese.
A first meeting held at Community Center in Bujumbura on 16th June 2018, where Bishop Pontien RIBAKARE and some of the Diocesan Staff members met the Rutana Diocesan native Christians who are in Bujumbura Capital City.
The agenda of the day was mainly to present to the natives the life of the Diocese of Rutana from the date it started up to now. In addition, the Bishop call upon the natives to get actively involved in the life of the Diocese.
The participants were greatly appreciated what is already achieved in Rutana Diocese within a very short time. The committee which will be in charge of organizing regular meetings of those natives was chosen.
During the month of July 2018, there were confirmation services in KABANGA, TIMBURA, GATONGATI, CEWE, NYAKUGUMA parishes and MUSONGATI local church.
When the confirmation took place, a total number of 453 Christians were confirmed. Among those 50 were from NYAKUGUMA Parish, 166 from CEWE Parish, 102 from TIMBURA, 78 from GATONGATI, 46 from KABANGA and 11 from MUSONGATI local church.
The Bishop took time to appreciate and thank the parishes for the number of great activities they have achieved this year and what was found in different parishes was that the church is very active and great achievements were reported by the parish’s priests
From 18th to 20th July 2018, Choir members and prayer cells were called upon to meet at archdeaconry levels where the Bishop with some of the diocesan staff had to meet them for some teachings.
The main topic on which the Bishop talked about concerned the Role of prayer and Christian songs in the life of the church and the great impact they bring about upon the Church in case the Holy Spirit is leading and inspiring those who are in charge of them.
He was warning choir members and prayer cells members not to be led by the fresh, but by the Holy Spirit if spiritual transformation upon the Church is aimed at. Many questions were asked by the respondents and they were very glad and appreciated such wonderful teachings
