The Anglican Diocese of Rutana is one of the 9 Dioceses of the Anglican Province of Burundi. It covers the south-eastern part of Burundi and borders the United Republic of Tanzania to the East and Makamba province to the South. In the South, there is the Diocese of Makamba, in the West, the Diocese of Matana, in the North-East the Diocese Gitega.
It was created in August 19, 2017 and ts first Bishop and Legal Representative was consecrated and installed on this day. It currently has 17 parishes, made up of 3 archdeaconries with a total of 100 local churches. It serves 33,346 Anglican Christians in the Diocese. According to these statistics, more than 60% of the Christians are under 35 ages, they are still young. Anglican Diocese of Rutana currently has 20 priests.
Rutana Diocese is at 133 km from Bujumbura the economic capital of Burundi and 70 km from Gitega the political capital of Burundi.
I. VISION AND MISSION
The Diocese of Rutana of the Anglican Church has as:
Vision :”To be a church that both reflects the image of God and promotes sustainable development in the community.”
Mission: Proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ in order to achieve a holistic transformation based on evangelism, leadership, education and socio-economic_development for the community
This mission is achieved through the following actions:
Evangelism and Discipleship;
Education and Leadership;
Food security, climate resilience and environmental protection;
Health promotion
Peace and reconciliation
II. OBJECTIVES
1. Preach the good news of Jesus Christ to evangelize the world (Matthew 28: 18-20) in order to increase the number and quality of believers.
2. Ensuring the spiritual maturity of church members through the biblical and theological education of church leaders
3. Build the capacity of church leaders, resource management and planning
4. Increase diocesan income through investments and effective exploitation of available resources
5. Improve the socio-economic living conditions of the population through a change of mentality and the development of initiative capacities
6. Improve the performance and well-being of Diocesan staff
7.Promote quality education
8. Encourage and build a partnership with financial partners

IV.ORGANISATION AND COORDINATION
The Diocese is led by the Bishop supported by the Secretariat with different departments, pastors, representatives of the faithful at different levels and departmental committees. The activities are carried out through a hierarchical structure from the Diocesan level to the local churches level. The Coordination is exercised through the Bishop’s Secretariat and its seven departments, namely the Department of Mothers Union, Department of Evangelism, the Department of Development, the Department of Youth and Education, Department of Communication, finance department and the Department of Health.
Each entity in this administrative structure has its own specified responsibilities
Income Generating Projects: Guest House, conference hall
The Diocese of Rutana has a long term vision to create Income Generating Projects (IGPs) which will help generate money to support the church mission. In that spirit, the Diocese has begun the activities of preparation (foundation) of the construction site of guest house. In 3 months ago, the committee in charge of Guest house has already mobilized 22,000,000BIF (11,282 USD). The church will continue to contribute slowly money in order to build that Guest house which may take a number of years to be achieved. The diocese has a hope that in coming days the construction activities will start. Besides that, the construction of Conference hall has finished and it is providing revenue to the Diocese. To protect the hall against torrential rains, a retaining wall is under construction and it is at the top
Visits in other dioceses for Official dedication to Lord and Confirmation services
On Sunday, August 15th, 2021, The Diocesan Bishop of Rutana Anglican church has made a joint visit in Gozi Parish –Matana with the Diocesan Bishop of Matana Diocese. The new church of Gozi were built by the funds collected from the congregations of the parish. It was a day of pleasure for congregations to see their vision being realized. The same activity were done in Rumonge Diocese on 19th September , 2021 were the Bishop of Rutana together with the Bishop of Rumonge visited the Maramvya archdeaconry for official dedication to Lord their new church build by Christians. During these ceremonies, the confirmation services were done by the two bishops.
Women and young girl’s workshop in Rutana, Timbura and NTaho
From the 10th up to 13th august, 2021, Mothers’ Union has organized one day workshop for women and young girl in each archdeaconry of Rutana Diocese. The total of attendances are 167 young girls and 232 women detailed as following: in Rutana archdeaconry 55 young girls and 91 women has attended, in Timbura archdeaconry 50 young girls and 55 women has followed the training, in Ntaho archdeaconry 62 young girls and 86 women.
The workshop has the following objective:
Training them on parenting approach
How they can shine in their local communities so that they can bring positive impact.
